Dictionary of Singaporean Hokkien 新加坡闽南话词典
New book available! 新加坡闽南话词典 [The Dictionary of Singaporean Minnan (Hokkien)] is a dialect research monograph co-authored by Zhou Changji and Zhou Qinghai, and published by the Chinese Social Sciences Press in 2002. The dictionary systematically includes the phonetic and tonal systems of Singaporean Hokkien (Min Nan), and through synchronic and diachronic comparative methods, presents its inheritance relationship with the traditional dialects of Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou in Fujian. The dictionary includes phonetic system analysis, vocabulary interpretation and cultural term annotations, and includes about 215 English loanwords with source information, providing a basic corpus for the study of Southeast Asian language contact. As of 2019, this work continues to be included in the recommended bibliography for Minnan research in the Douban Reading section, and is used as a core reference in many academic studies.
