Singapore Dialects - Preserving Chinese Dialects in Singapore

Singapore Dialects (@singaporedialects) is an educational and cultural organisation dedicated to preserving our intangible cultural heritage in the form of our ancestral Chinese languages, or grandmother tongues, better known as “dialects”. We were founded in 2019, by Ben Tan (then a secondary school student), with the goal of being a one-stop educational and cultural platform for Singaporeans interested in their roots or in dialects. But of course, we welcome our friends from different races and from all corners of the globe to join us in preserving and transmitting culture in general.

Our organisation focuses on raising young people’s awareness and interest in dialects, and we therefore utilise social media, uploading and sharing educational and entertainment content related to dialect culture. We have collaborated with many figures in the arts and culture scene, including: Lynn Wong, a 2021 Singapore Person of the Year nominee; Lee Swee Har, a disciple of the renowned storyteller Lee Dai Sor; Ong Yi Ting, a Hokkien-speaking internet celebrity; as well as language researchers and cultural interest groups such as Teochew Puj (@teochewpuj) and Raffles Dialects (@rafflesdialects).

新加坡方言社（@singaporedialects）是一个教育和文化机构，致力于传承新加坡的非物质文化遗产，即新加坡华人的方言祖语。我们的组织由当时中学的生陈胜义于2019年创立，旨在为新加坡寻根求知的人士，或对方言感兴趣的人士，提供一个一站式的教育、文化交流平台。当然，我们也欢迎不同种族的同胞，以及来自世界各地的朋友与我们共同努力传承文化。

本组织注重于提高年轻人对方言的认识和兴趣，因此通过社交媒体进行宣传，上传和转发对方言文化相关的教育及娱乐内容。我们曾与艺术文化领域的众多人知名士合作，其中包括：2021年新加坡年度人物提名人王鈺清（Lynn Wong）、讲古大师李大傻的入室女弟子李瑞霞（Lee Swee Har）、福建网红王依婷（Ong Yi Ting），以及语言研究者、文化兴趣组织，如潮州白話字（@teochewpuj）和莱讲方言（@rafflesdialects）。
